In this article you will learn how to protect the data coming from external platforms in Quantive.

Data from third-party platforms can be sensitive. Use the Data Source permissions to define who can access and manage it.

All users will be able to see Key Results, KPIs and Insightboards powered by this Data Source, respecting item-level permissions.

Prerequisites

To access the Data Sources section in the platform, users must hold the Manage Data permission within their assigned role. The default admin and data roles include this permission. For a comprehensive understanding of permission roles, explore Custom User Role Permissions - Everything you need to know.

Set permissions

Permissions are specified on the last step when adding a Data Source:

By default, everyone in the account with Manage Data permission on role level can see the Data Source; the creator and everyone in admin role can manage the data source.

Permissions can be granted on 4 different levels - users, teams, roles, account - depending on your organizational needs. To add new option search for it in the text area.

To remove any of the selected options, click on the icon.

Permission options

Click on the to icon to define the granular permissions for each user, team or role.

  • Read – allows user to use the data to create insights for Key Results and KPIs automation or for reporting purpose in Insightboards.

  • Edit – allows user to change the name, synchronization period and schema changes of the Data Source.

  • Delete – user will be able to delete this Data Source.

  • Modify permissions – the user will be able to change the permissions of the Data Source, e.g. access this very screen.

You can set different permissions at various levels—users, teams, or user roles. If a user belongs to multiple permission groups, the most complete rights take precedence.

Edit permissions

You can also edit the configuration later by navigating to Data Sources screen, expand the connection details and click on the Ellipsis (3-dot) menu on the Data Source.

Best practices

  • To ensure continued data set management in your absence, always grant complete permissions to at least one other individual.

Please note that these permissions are for the Data Source itself. You can also control who can add new Data Sources at Connection level. Learn more in this article: Data Connection permissions.
