In this article you will learn how to protect the connection with external platforms in Quantive.
Data received from third-party platforms often contains sensitive information. You might want to restrict access to specific users who can manage these connections. Data Connection permissions allows you to precisely define who can administer the Data Connection.
Prerequisites
To access the Data Sources section in the platform, users must hold the Manage Data permission within their assigned role. The default admin and data roles include this permission. For a comprehensive understanding of permission roles, explore Custom User Role Permissions - Everything you need to know.
Set permissions
Permissions are defined immediately after the authentication of the Data Connection:
By default, everyone in the account with Manage Data permission on role level can see the connection; the creator and everyone in admin role can manage the connection.
Permissions can be granted on 4 different levels - users, teams, roles, account - depending on your organizational needs. To add new option search for it in the text area.
To remove any of the selected options, click on the icon.
NOTE: Read permissions grant access to the connection name only and cannot be removed.
Permission options
Click on the to icon to define the granular permissions for each user, team or role.
Read – allows the user to view the connection name. Cannot be removed.
Create - allows the user to add new data sources from this connection.
Edit – allows the user to change the name and authenticate the connection.
Delete – allows the user to delete the connection and its data sources.
Modify permissions – the user will be able to change the permissions of the connection, e.g. access this very screen.
You can set different permissions at various levels—users, teams, or user roles. If a user belongs to multiple permission groups, the most complete rights take precedence.
Edit permissions
You can also edit the configuration later by navigating to Data Sources screen, expand the connection and click on the Ellipsis (3-dot) menu on the Data Connection.
Best practices
To ensure continued data set management in your absence, always grant complete permissions to at least one other individual.
Please note that those permissions are for the Data Connection. You can also set granular permissions on each Data Source separately. Learn more in this article: Data Source Permissions.
