Overview

Every company is unique in the way they customize their OKRs process to achieve their desired outcomes. In many cases, the process also requires specific rules for ownership and accountability.

In Quantive Results, you can restrict the ownership of OKRs and KRs to teams or employees or a combination of both. Tasks, on the other hand, could be owned only by employees.

By default, objectives and key results can be owned by both employees and teams. However, you can further limit the ownership to one or the other.

Tasks on the other hand could be owned only by employees.

The ownership settings are applied account-wide and take effect over all OKR sessions. Any objective or key result that is created in the account will respect the rules set in the account settings.

Prerequisites

To modify the account-wide ownership, you must be an administrator or have user role permissions to "Access account setup".

Modify ownership rules

Perform the following:

  1. In the bottom of the navigation pane, click Settings.

  2. On the Configuration tab, click Methodology.

  3. In Who can own Objectives? section, select one of the following:
Employees and teams, Teams only, Employees only.

  4. Click Save.

  5. Perform the same in the Who can own Key Results?

NOTE: The changes apply only to new objectives and key results. They do not affect already created ones.

Use cases

Beside the default combination of objectives and key results owned by both employees and teams, there are some other common combinations.

You can consider implementing in your OKR process in the following examples:

  • Objectives owned by employees and key results owned by employees and teams

This combination increases the accountability over the respective goal. The objective is assigned to one person, indicating that they are in full ownership of delivering the goal. When a team is responsible for an objective, the manager is assigned as the objective owner.

Key results can be team owned or individually owned depending whether the team is supposed to contribute or an individual.

  • Objectives owned by teams and key results owned by employees

This combination fosters teamwork and collaboration where each person's contribution is visible.

The objective is assigned to the team, where the team can be any group of people working on a common goal. Key results are owned by the individuals from the team.

  • Objectives owned by employees and key results owned by employees

This combination increases the accountability on all levels. The objectives, as well as key results, are is owned by a particular individual.

NOTE: Quantive Results does not limit the number of teams each user can be part of. Many organizations create virtual or temporary teams in Quantive Results to suit the current needs of the business.

NOTE: Tasks don’t have permissions as we could see them in the other two. However, if they are linked they inherit the OKR permissions. If a task is assigned to an Objective or Key Result that lives in a restricted session (with limited access), the task is restricted and can be visible to the people who can access this session only.
